Many people worry that if they learn CPR or use an AED, then they could be held legally responsible if the person dies. In fact this is not true. Emergency responders (even laypersons) are protected by the Good Samaritan laws.
What is a Good Samaritan law?
This is a law or an act in United States that protects those who render aid to a person injured or ill in an emergency. This law is also applicable to health care providers and other rescuers from being sued when they are giving an emergency help to a victim. Its purpose is to keep people from being so reluctant to help a stranger in need for fear of facing legal repercussions if they make some mistake in the treatment. A volunteer provides aid to a complete stranger therefore he owes to the stranger a duty of being reasonably careful. The word Samaritan comes from the story told by Jesus which said a traveler (Samaritan) aided an injured man with whom he had no affiliation. This means that if you do your best, using the training or equipment (e.g., CPR, AED) that you have, then you are not liable for the outcome, even if you cannot save the person. You are just doing the best that you can. People are rarely sued for helping in an emergency. Always activate emergency medical services as soon as possible.

Statistics show that for every minute is essential for a person who has gone into a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Patients who receive CPR and a defibrillator shock within 3 minutes of going into cardiac arrest survive 74 percent of the time. A person who does not receive AED defibrillator shock with in 10 minutes has almost zero chances of survival. AEDs are user-friendly and low-maintenance devices that can really make a difference.
New technology has made AEDs Equipments simple and user-friendly. Clear audio and visual cues tell users what to do when using an AED and coach people through CPR. A shock is delivered only if the victim needs it.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Symptoms

Cardiac arrest is one of the greatest of all medical emergencies. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. The victim may or may not have diagnosed heart disease. When this happens, blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. Most cases of SCA are due to an arrhythmia called ventricular fibrillation. Other electrical problems in the heart also can cause SCA. The irregular heart rhythm called arrhythmia can causes the heart to suddenly stop beating. Some cardiac arrests are caused due to extreme slowing of the heart. This is called bradycardia.
One needs to remember that Cardiac arrest strikes immediately and without warning. If a person has a cardiac arrest, they lose consciousness almost at once. This is the most extreme emergency. Unless someone starts cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within three to four minutes followed by AED the person may suffer permanent damage to the brain and other organs. Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as soon as possible. One should know how to use AED Equipments.
Cardiac arrest can strikes immediately, without warning and are quite drastic. Here are some symptoms:
1) Sudden collapse
2) No pulse
3) No breathing
4) Loss of consciousness
Sometimes there are some early warning signs of Cardiac Attack like:
1) Respiratory arrest
2) Electrocution
3) Choking
4) Trauma
5) Chest pain
6) Weakness
7) Pounding in the chest
8) Fatigue
9) Fainting
10) Blackouts
11) Dizziness
12) Shortness of breath
13) Palpitations
14) Vomiting

Appropriate Maintenance Tips for Automated External Defibrillator

You have decided to purchase an AED for your home, school or college with your doctor approval. You have undergone first aid training on CPR and AED. Then here are some tips on how to maintain an automated external defibrillator.
a) The cover of AED should not be loose.
b) Check the state of readiness of these devices at regular times.
c) Store your automated external defibrillator in an easily accessible place like Wall Cabinet with Alarm Dsg300a and make sure all family members know where it is.
d) The cables that attach the device check weather it has cuts or any broken wires. If, the cables need to be repaired get them repaired from a professional.
e) The AED pads and interior needs to be cleaned after each uses to prevent any contamination.
f) Check the status indicator after each use.
g) The batteries and audible prompts need to be checked every fortnight to see its correct functioning.
h) To be on the safer side check for the flashing on black hourglass of an AED to ensure the device is all set to use.
i) Make sure the pads do not pass their expiration date.
j) Make sure that the pads are in good shape.
k) Make sure the batteries have not expired and inserted properly.
l) Make sure the pre kit includes clean razor, mask and gloves.
m) If there is no flashing on black hourglass of an AED contact a professional to check the unit of damages or return the device to the manufacturer for service

10 Advantages of CPR and AED Training

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training are designed to give you the confidence and skills while saving a life in an emergency situation. To assist a victim experiencing an emergency medical situation one need to be trained in first aid. CPR is the first major part of treatment that is required in sudden cardiac attack followed by AED. There are many advantages of CPR and AED as follows:
1 CPR and AED training creates those skills in you that help you to help to solve problems of the victim in crucial times.
2 The CPR training is provided by professional and experts are quite intensive and practical thus increases the rate of survival of the victim.
3 A person experiencing training for first aid learns how a chest compression and artificial respiration can be applied to a victim suffering a cardiac heart attack.
4 A person does not need to possess any medical education for receiving the CPR and AED training so that each person can be can save many lives.
5 The hectic pace and stress in modern times made the young generation prone to heart diseases therefore the attack has happen to anybody anywhere. A companion trained to perform CPR can save that person life.
6 The aged population often fall prey to cardiac disorders therefore at least one member in each family must be trained for an emergency medical situation to perform CPR and AED.
7 There can be host of undetected cardiac problems existing in children that can cause any heart problems, CPR treatments provided to the child suffering from sudden cardiac attack can save his or her life.
8 Sudden cardiac attacks can occur to anyone at home, school, college, hospital, offices so therefore it is important to train oneself the working of an AED.
9 First Aid training provides an understanding of basic emergency procedures.
10 A person who experiences a sudden cardiac arrest immediately loses consciousness and stops breathing normally and unless CPR and AED treatment is not provided to him he may die.

Importance’s of Automated External Defibrillators in Schools

Automated External Defibrillators (AED) is known to be saving life around the world. AED is used on a person who has suffered a sudden cardiac attack (SCA). Sudden cardiac attack occurs when the blood circulation of the heart is abrupt causing heart to stop due to no blood supply. To re-start the heart AEDs required. As report suggest that one in five hundred children may suffer from cardiac myopathies a medical condition where heart muscle is unusually thick therefore abrupting supply of blood to the heart. This often undetected condition can lead to a cardiac arrest. There can be host of undetected cardiac problems existing within any sizeable school population that can cause sudden cardiac attack. Many elders are also present in the schools including teachers, principle, office staff, parent’s volunteers, reading specialists and many more. There lives can be protected through placement of an AED.
Several states have passed legislation that requires schools to have an AED under their roofs. This legislation was implemented to ensure the safety and health of the students currently attending schools. There is educational value in placing AEDs in schools. Primary level teachers can make their pupils aware of what they are and how they are used by keeping the information very general. Children should be completely aware on how to work the defibrillator in case of emergency, if a school nurse is not around. The faculty members should be also trained to work the defibrillator. AED located directly within the school will allow your child to have a much better survival rate since he or she will not have to wait for a paramedics to arrive.
Famous brand like Philips, Defibtech, HeartSine and Zoll has introduced such powerful life saving AED products that help your loved ones to live a stress free life.
